Ganga Cruises and the Gangetic Dolphin

Dredging and noise pollution associated with the newly launched luxury cruises in the Ganga are expected to make the already critical situation for Gangetic Dolphins a lot worse. Endangered and threatened by pollution and habitat loss, the Gangetic Dolphin is India's National Aquatic Animal.

Vizhinjam Port Protests

In her Mongabay piece, Supriya Vohra outlines how loss of marine biodiversity and livelihoods has been accelerating because of the Adani - Kerala Govt. Vizhinjam International Seaport. Since then, protests from the fishing community have intensified, and even painted a religious colour by the Kerala government. Cartoon from my column with The Hindu Sunday Magazine.

Adani and Pulicat

The Adani International Environmental Crime Syndicate has had its eyes on taking more of Pulicat Lake for a while now. The public hearing for their 6000+ acre megaport in the lagoon, which will not only destroy marine wildlife, flood catchments, and cyclone buffers, but will also displace lakhs of people, is scheduled for the 22nd of January, 2021. Maps of Marine Conservation Priority Sites in Hong Kong

To celebrate World Oceans Day (8th June), WWF Hong Kong commissioned me to create this set of 7 maps for marine conservation priority sites in Hong Kong. WWF is working with the government to create marine conservation reserves in these areas. The maps show some of the key species found in the region, as well as the threats and conservation pressures that they face.

The maps were displayed at kiosks and interactive devices at the WWF Hong Kong event 'Sea for Future', held on World Oceans Day. The maps are also being used in WWF's marine conservation and awareness collaterals. Thanks to Samantha Lee of WWF for commissioning me for this project, and for giving me a chance to draw and learn about fish!
