Kiwis

Meet the 5 species of Kiwi in this brand new poster! Flightless and endemic to New Zealand, Kiwis are the smallest of the living ratites (a group that includes ostriches, cassowaries and rheas and emus). While the Great Spotted is the largest Kiwi, the Little Spotted is the smallest. The North Island Kiwi is the commonest among the five, and the Rowi the rarest. All the five species are threatened by habitat loss and invasive species.

The Kiwi Counselor

Kiwis are the smallest extant ratites (a group of flightless birds) and lay the largest eggs in proportion to body weight. There are five species of kiwis- the great Spotted, the Little Spotted, the Okarito Brown, the Southern Brown and the North Island Brown kiwis. all of them threatened by habitat destruction and predation by invasive species. The North Island Brown kiwi is classified as endangered on the IUCN Red List.
