Rainwater Harvesting- World Water Day

Woodpeckers and rainwater harvesting! Woodpeckers locate their nests at angles such that the nest faces away from the direction of the rain and is hence naturally water-proofed. But if one does make up his mind to harvest rainwater, it'd be as easy as this for him!

Water conservation

This is something we all come across in every office building, workplace and corporate house. I have never understood why bottled water is regarded as somewhat of a 'status symbol' and treated as a pre-requisite for any conference, meeting or event, in spite of the availability of drinking water otherwise in most office buildings. I also know people who would not address a running faucet simply because it isn't their property! According to a study by the EPA, letting your faucet run for five minutes uses as much energy as running a 60 watt light bulb for fourteen hours! Wouldn't it be wiser to look at water and energy efficiency as a long-term strategy for not only eco-friendliness but also a cost-effective solution; rather than spending needlessly on bottled water for every event your company hosts?

Delete Folder Permanently?

Sir David Attenborough has referred to our species as a plague on earth and said that limiting population growth is an urgent need to give the biosphere an opportunity to bounce back (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/earthnews/9815862/Humans-are-plague-on-Earth-Attenborough.html). I personally, am strongly in favour of Attenborough's opinion, as well as a supporter of the Voluntary Human Extinction Movement (http://www.vhemt.org/). What are your views?

Earth Hour- you're doing it wrong!

Sustainability isn't as much about preaching as it is about practising. I've been to conferences on environment protection where ACs have been overused, sustainability talks where bottled water has been served, supposedly 'green' events where fireworks have been used to conclude the events. Do we love irony or are just a stupid race?

Well, what better models to endorse green design than animals themselves?

There are so many benefits of investing in green energy that a blog post may not ne sufficient to describe. Not only is it limited to cutting carbon emmissions, but extends to creating healthier environments and living conditions, contributing tremendously towards cost reduction and even creating new job opportunities. As the focus on green energy is increasing among the world's leading corporates, more and more companies anre beginning to invest in these reliable, resilient and inexhaustible alternatives.

The Angler fish is celebrating 'Earth Hour'. Are you?

The Earth Hour is an annual event held towards the end of march in which businesses and households switch off all non-essential electrical appliances to raise awareness about climate change. It was conceived by Leo Burnett and the WWF, starting in 2007 in Sydney with the participation of 2.2 million people. If Earth Hour is celebrated underwater, the Anglerfish is sure to take the lead!

Soilcoat

Rainwater harvesting is one of the most important measures towards water conservation. It refers to the accumulation and deposition of rainwater for reuse before it reaches the aquifer. Uses include water for garden, water for livestock, water for irrigation, and indoor heating for houses etc.. It has proved to be advantageous in several ways. First of all, it makes use of a natural resource and prevents soil erosion and runoff. It also helps avoid contamination of water with chemicals and pesticides. It has proved to be an excellent source of water for irrigation of landscapes, for which one doesn't even need filtration. Home systems are relatively simple to install and help cut the water bill down.

The Vase Case

There are several benefits of switching over to green energy, the most notable ones being that they have minimal or no negative environmental impacts, do not deplete natural resources, ensure the protection of the natural world, have little or no net carbon emission, and are safe to use, without putting our future generations at risk. Most of these methods are also known to cut down long term costs and are increasingly creating new job opportunities.

Learning from our ancestors

Wouldn't it be a great idea to switch back to the early Hominid's green, sustainable ways in today's era of aggravated global warming and climate change? The more we burn up fossil fuels, the more pollution we cause and the faster our ice caps disappear. The wheel really needs to be re-invented such that we are able to put the brakes on the climate change accelerator!
