Although foxes are skilled hunters, a significant part of their diet comes from scavenging and resorting to piracy, stealing eggs and fledglings from the nests of ground-dwelling birds like quails and partridges. Foxes are known to mate for life and often hunt in pairs. Habitat loss from urbanization is the main conservation threat most of India's fox species face, followed by poaching for their fur.
